Forum Participation (Discussion)

Forum Participation

Participation in forums is very important it is a way to spark discussions, to evoke emotions of learner. Also discussion forums create an excellent platform for learning through interaction between learners and instructor and this is based on the idea of the learner centered learning environment and these will develop critical thinking skills. The interaction between the learners provide a wide learning spectrum in which, ideas will be brainstormed and shared. Discussions are a way of getting learners involved in activities and this gives learners a sense of  interaction with others more especially on online class.

Looking at the discussion on the online that we tasked in the online class, they way the learner commented was a bit confusing sometimes. The thread of the comments was hard to follow, for example some learner did not respond or reply on to the right learner but as we just that this kind of discussions can be can be confusing and mixed up because the learners have not adapted to the new environment. Mandernach, Gonzales  and Garrett (2006) mentioned While instructor-student communication is important across all these modes of interaction, threaded discussions serve as the primary means of whole-class or group interaction in the online classroom. The use of threaded discussions provides online instructors a means of engaging groups of students, fostering peer-to-peer interaction and developing a cohesive learning community. The result of this engagement is an enhanced active learning process.
